GKN Aerospace will manufacture key airframe components for Archer Aviation’s Midnight eVTOL aircraft at its UK facilities.

The partnership supports Archer’s production ramp up phase and expands an existing collaboration between the companies. GKN Aerospace has supplied Midnight’s low-voltage Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems from the Netherlands since 2023.

GKN Aerospace said it will use its experience in lightweight aerostructures, wing technologies, and electrical systems to manufacture and supply Midnight’s wing structure. Work has been underway at GKN Aerospace’s Global Technology Centre in Bristol, UK and across European sites for over a year on the part.

Midnight is designed to carry up to four passengers while producing less noise and emissions than traditional helicopters. The aircraft features redundant systems including 12 engines and propellers, which Archer says targets similar safety levels as commercial airliners.

“We’re delighted to expand our collaboration with Archer on the Midnight electric aircraft, building on our world-leading airframe technology and Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems expertise,” said John Pritchard, president, civil airframes at GKN Aerospace. “This partnership will help move the eVTOL market from the R&D to the industrialization phase.”
